This summer I got the very fun project of helping my cousin Bessie and her husband Jason with designs and illustrations for their wedding on the St. Lawrence River. The river runs between New York and Canada and is also known as the 1000 Islands.

To give sense of where the event was happening I created a hand drawn map of the river for the front of the invitations. All of the irregular blue shapes are islands in between New York and Ontario. Their names, Bessie and Jason, and a heart sit next to Summerland Island to mark the location of the wedding. Because the wedding was so close to the Canadian Border, and the colors fit perfectly, the invitations were sent out in airmail envelopes covered with vintage stamps.

The tote bag was printed with a heart made up of icons that relate to the river and their relationship. Each table for the reception was assigned an icon instead of a number.

The wedding was amazing. Ok, I know I’m biased, but seriously I don’t think I have ever been to one where so many artists, musicians, designers, writers and little kids got together to contribute. Everything was so personal including the speeches, the cake, the music, the flowers, the cups and the arbor. I am so happy for them and so happy that I got to be part of the process by working on these drawings and designs.
